Off-track garage doors
Off-Track Garage Door Repair
Your door took a detour. A door comes off track when a roller leaves its rail, usually after a car bumps it, a cable breaks, or a track bracket loosens. The door may hang crooked or jam halfway.
Signs you're dealing with this
- The door sits crooked or one side is lower
- Rollers visibly outside the track
- The door jammed partway and won't move
- Bent track sections or loose brackets
- A slack or snapped lift cable
Safety first. Stop using the door and unplug the opener. Don't try to pull the door back into place. An off-track door can fall, and the springs and cables may still be under tension. Keep the area clear.
When to call a pro
Re-tracking a door, replacing bent track and re-tensioning cables should be done by a technician.
